"Inspiration File Folder Journal"

Image
G'day and I hope your are going well, wherever you are :) This is my weekend off and with the cold wet weather, I am mainly hibernating and used the time to craft a bit :) I love watching YouTube videos of some very clever artists.  A few of my faves, that I have Subbed to are:  The Paper Outpost, 49 Dragonflies, Paper Terrace, Marmie SmallArt, Treasure Books and Joie De Fi. We have some talented Aussies out there too and I love Johanna, Clough, Willbound Journals, Roxy Creations, Shanouki Art and Paper Inspirations :) I puddle and have a go at their tutorials, for inspiration for my journals. I thought I would make one just to try things out and document how to make different ephemera, pockets, tags etc.  I have had plans of doing more videos myself but life gets in the way................. I thought I would try a different journal and use office file folders, that you can buy in office supply and cheap shops. I really enjoy the process of putting a journal together and trying di

"Mum's Journal" - Challenge 6

Hello Friends, Hoping you are all well on this Thursday here in Australia! A bit quieter week for me, a bit of a crook knee, which has slowed me down and we have just come out of Lockdown, yet again!!! I have had a chance to do the next Challenge for Mum's Journal. It was to create a dangle embellishment, for the spine of the journal.  As you may know, I am not really into bling, so I used lots of lace and trims, plus I made one strand of charms, beads etc which reminded me of mum...... One of my fave people on YouTube is Pam @ The Paper Outpost. I watched the above Tutorial and then had a go at making one. Pam is quite funny and she does great Tutorials. She also does a Podcast that I enjoy :) I used a jump ring, to put it on with a clip, just to show you how it looks. It will be trimmed a little more also.  I used some lace, trims and vintage buttons that were mums. I added the few charms that I had to finish off. It makes a lovely sound when you touch the key at the bottom of i

"Common Place Journal Part 2" - The Pages

Hi There It is Saturday evening here and it is wet and cold. We are still in lockdown but hopefully only a few more days.......I hope you are well and warmer in your part of the world...... I have just finished off creating my new Journal to play in.  During the week, I have been getting the pages together for this journal. It is a mix of tea-dyed, stencilled, pattern paper, music sheet, book and magazine pages, collage and napkin.  Instead of signatures, I have done a Hinged Tab Binding on the pages which allow them to be opened either way. They sit flat to work on and I think this is becoming my fave binding method. This is the video I followed for mine, from 49 Dragonflies.     Instead of using fabric or paper, for the tabs, which I have done, I tried washi tape. It works really well and doesn't give you the added bulk to your page stack. This is the front inside with my envelope on the inside and my Owl page which is collaged with a napkin. Yep, I love owls :) I attached the l

Hello Friends, I hope things are well in your part of the world :) It is Saturday evening here in Australia, 17/7 and It's my weekend off. I am in Victoria and we are having another snap lockdown for 5 days.........I think we are all getting a bit over it.......  I have started my  Commonplace Journal,  which I have been working on, in between the memory journal for mum. This journal is going to be where I put anything and everything throughout the rest of this year, or until I fill it ;) A "Commonplace Journal" - It is a  central resource or depository for ideas, quotes, anecdotes, observations and information you come across during your life and didactic pursuits.” In other words, a “thinker’s journal.”   I am definitely a thinker!!! I find I am overwhelmed sometimes by social media, daily life, etc and it is nice to keep "real items" in a special book just "for me" No one else needs to see your journal and you can share what you want"

Mums Journal - Challenge 4"

Hello There, It is Thursday evening here in Victoria Australia, as we go into another 5-day lockdown!!!!! I think we are all over it but oh well!!!! Nothing really changes that much for us as we are Essential Workers...... After work this afternoon, I had a go at the Mini Chomp #4 which was to make two small notebooks to go into your journal..... These were fun to make and came together quickly, which if you know me, is a good thing :)  I folded some 6.5" square pattern paper in half and just stapled them with my long stapler. One of my most used tools. I just made a little collage on the front of them to embellish, using scraps on my desk. A few of the pages are above to show how I am going to use them in mum's journal. I used lightish pattern papers that could be written on and I also added some stamping, a few journal cards, and a couple of flip out pages to add extra photos or journaling.  The Junk Journaling for Everyone Group on FB is very friendly and helpful. I am enj

"Mum's Journal Challenge 3"

Hello there, How is your week going?   Not too bad here, but been very wet and cold over the weekend. I stayed indoors as much as I could :)  I have been progressing with some more pages of mum's journal with the next Mini Challenge in the group. Another six pages of making some more space for photos and journaling plus some pockets etc for extras. I made a large pocket on the left to house one of the large tags I made and then I left the other side for photos or ephemera as I work in the journal. I wanted to add something to record the endless cuppas and talks mum and I used to have. I decoupaged some teacups onto the coffee dyed paper then made an extra journaling/photo space. Another couple of pockets with tags.  The one on the right is a double pocket. I made the transparent one on the front from some baking paper and sewed it onto the front of the napkin one. A pretty plain one with some stencilling on the left and a tuck spot with a large pocket underneath, on the right. I ha

Hello Friends, I hope this finds you well and not too locked down with Covid. Here in Victoria, we are going well. I am having my first Phizer jab on Friday..... I want to keep myself, my family, friends and the people I work with safe. I have had the weekend off but a bit of a busy week. I have made some time to do the 2nd Mini Chomp Challenge, in the group.  This week it was to create some pages for your journal. As mine is a binder I did 6 back and front but will have quite a few more in it also.  I wanted to combine Mum's love of sewing and her garden in the one album. It was a big part of her life as she worked at Fletcher Jones before she was married and she always had a beautiful rose garden of around 150 roses plus all her Lilies, Alstromeria, Camellias, Annuals and Bulbs...... I decided to try a few different ideas to decorate these pages to start. #1 - I used scraps of different papers to collage. #2 - Distress ink through a stencil. #3 - Some silly stitching fun, with m
