"Mum's Journal" - Challenge 10

Image
Hi Friends, It has been 10 weeks since I started the Challenges with Junk Journal for Everyone on FB. It has been lots of fun and very inspiring....... Challenge 10  - To make a snippet roll and some cluster embellishments.   To make the snippet roll, I just tore some strips of different scrap papers and then folded them as I put them through my machine to make a ruffled effect.  I also had some scraps of lace and fabric that I just cut into small pieces and sewed them on to for some texture. You could add other pieces of different paper also to it. I sort of went a bit overboard and I think it ended up being about 4 metres long, but it will come in handy for projects.  I cut this strip to add to a page and just added some buttons and a bit of embellishing. It is a belly band that will hold journaling cards, photos etc. For the clusters, I just layered and glued some book page, cheesecloth, lace, and buttons etc, to create small embellishments for corners or tops of the pages.  I migh

"Mum's Memory Journal" - Continued....

Hello There, Hoping all my friends are well and safe if in Lockdown...... We are still free atm in Regional Victoria and I have had a busy week. In between, I have been creating a bit more of Mum's Journal.  I am still playing along with the challenges in the FB group and  #7 was to create some Ephemera Drawers and #8 to make Flips using envelopes.   For this first one, I used 3 business-sized envelopes and put them together so they would fold in and out.  I can add tags, photos, journaling etc to them. This one, I played around with a bit and decided to put four different size envelopes together, using the openings as the flip part. I made a couple of fasteners from cardstock and used twine to hold them down in the journal. These little drawers I created using a wardrobe tag. As I couldn't use the digital to make it, I improvised with what I had...... On the inside cover, of the vintage binder that I am using: I collaged a page and made a large pocket, then added the envelope

"Altered Book Rolodex"

Hello Friends, As I am playing with an Altered Book at the moment, I thought I would show you another great project, you can make with a book also.  When I was a kid, a Rolodex was something on an office desk that held business cards, and contact details. It turned on a roller so the cards were accessible. I had one of the ones above and used the small cards to make mini scrapbook layouts. I used lots of photos up that didn't go into our family albums :)  With this sort of thing in mind, I first made a book into one earlier this year. It was a fun and easy project. I have used it to store my ATC swaps.  There are some great Tutorials on Youtube and I watched this one  "HERE"  and then had a go myself.  The book I used was one I found at the op shop and as the pages were a bit thicker, I folded all of them. If your book has quite a few its is better to fold three or four of them together.  This time instead of leaving the book flat, I folded one side up and made side piec

"Altered Book" - Part 1- Prepping Your Book

Hi there,  I hope you are doing well :)   Victoria is into our 6th Lockdown now, with cases in Melbourne again :(  I am an essential worker and we haven't stopped.  Thursday, on my way home from work, I went op-shopping locally here in town and found a few goodies for my Junk Journaling stash. I found a few good size books, some doilies, postcards, cards and envelopes, writing sets, a Japanese watercolour book, and music books. I go maybe once a month/6 weeks, or so for a peek and I usually find some cool bits and pieces.  I have today off and thought I would make a start on a new journal for me..... I found a nice copy of Pride and Prejudice, which I think I have decided to use as my new Personal/Daily journal. I wanted to keep the nice cover and take out some pages. It is a 1984 copy so not precious and the pages had a good thickness to them also. I have made a couple of altered books before, my latest being a Vintage book. It was a lot of fun to create.  Craftyrina YouTube Chan

"Soft Cover Flow Journal"

Hi Friends,  August already and the year is flying......................... I am always looking for my next project :)   I have wanted to sew a journal cover and use it for a journal, but have been a bit hesitant.....A don't have a big stash of fabric now, as I made quite a few quilts years ago. A lovely lady was selling some Sari Silk remnants and it is absolutely beautiful. I decided to dive in.   I found Rachel's (Roxy Creations) video she did very helpful and gave me a base to start......... I wanted a longer but not so wide journal this time. I thought I might make it into a FLOW type journal which is something you have, to put heaps of paper ephemera etc in and have on your desk, ready to go instead of hunting for stuff. This is a video by Natasha @ Treasure Books to show you what I mean by a flow Journal :) I am sure, like me, you have lots of lovely goodies In your stash that you don't use. This is how I am going to use them up :)  I cut a file folder to 12 high x
